Solidarity with Brazil: Opposing the far-right threat to human rights, equality & social progress
Tuesday 20 November, 7pm, House of Commons SW1.
A special event to discuss building solidarity with progressive movements in Brazil defending equality, democratic rights and social progress and opposing Jair Bolsonaro and the far-right.
Bolsonaro is a long-time supporter of Brazil’s former military dictatorship and has spoken in favour of torture and extrajudicial police killings. That makes his recent calls for a purge of political rivals in a “cleansing the likes of which has never been seen in Brazilian history” even more chilling. His threatening remarks against progressive and working class organisations, women, Brazil’s large Black population, homeless people, the LGBT community, NGOs and many others makes it clear that he poses a real danger to millions of Brazilians.
Make sure to join Brazilian speakers, MPs, trade unionists, campaigners and more including Julia Felmanas of the Brazilian Workers Party, Richard Burgon MP, Chris Williamson MP and Christine Blower of the NEU (NUT Section) for this vital solidarity event – a full list of speakers and addition information for the event will be provided shortly.
Hosted by the Brazil Solidarity Initiative and supported by Labour Friends of Progressive Latin America.
