A public meeting is being held online on Tuesday 7th September at 7.30pm as part of the campaign against Fire and Rehire. The meeting will be held in conjunction with Brent Trades Council. Barry Gardiner, MP for Brent North, will be speaking, as well as two other local trade unionists.
Fire and Rehire is a highly exploitative practice that has become common among employers in the last 18 months. The TUC estimate that 10% of British workers have already been affected. It involves employers effectively forcing workers to sign new contracts, often with worse terms and conditions.
Barry Gardiner’s private members bill calls on the government to outlaw the practice. If passed, it would protect millions of workers from losing employment rights often fought for and established over years. So far 140 MPs have supported the motion, as well as 20 UK trade unions. The meeting will be a chance to find out more about how you can help with the campaign. Everyone is welcome!
