Stop the drift to nuclear war! For a Labour policy for peace and nuclear disarmament!

By Carol Turner

Join Jeremy Corbyn MP and friends at Labour CND’s online annual conference this Sunday 3rd April, when we’ll be debating the way forward for a Labour foreign policy based on peace, people and planet.

The conference couldn’t come at a more important time. The Ukraine crisis has brought the prospect of nuclear war closer than it’s been for decades. We need de-escalation and negotiations, not the belligerent language adopted by the US and UK.

Conference kicks off with a report from Parliament by Richard Burgon MP. Jeremy Corbyn will be contributing on the role of ethics and values in Labour’s foreign policy, and we’ve even got a brief musical interlude for you between sessions.

Our first panel offers perspectives on the Tory military build-up. It includes Ukraine, Aukus, the new Cold War with China, and refugees – and the likely impact of the biggest military spending hike in over 30 years.

Panellists are CND Chair Tom Unterrainer a member of Labour’s International Policy Commission, NEC member Mish Rahman, and Jess Barnard of Young Labour. They’re joined by American peace activist Margaret Kimberly of the Black Alliance for Peace who will be contributing a view from the US.

Increasing global tensions have triggered a further big increase in energy prices, and led to a fierce debate about Britain’s future energy security. Our second panel looks at how nuclear contributes to the climate crisis with Katy Clark MSP and Labour CND’s just transition specialist Samantha Mason. They’re joined by Stuart Parkinson of Scientists for Global Responsibility who’s taking a much-needed look at the carbon boot print of the military.

All welcome at our annual conference. If you’re a member of CND and of the Labour Party you’re eligible to take part in our AGM which takes place this year after the local and mayoral elections, on Monday 16th May. Contact for more details.
