Labour Hub editors were deeply saddened to learn of the death on December 30th of Annabelle Sreberny following a short illness. Annabelle was an active member of Islington North CLP and below we publish a brief tribute from her MP Jeremy Corbyn.
I was shocked and saddened to hear that our wonderful friend and inspiration, Annabelle Sreberny, sadly passed away.
She was a proud Jewish socialist who fearlessly stood up for Palestinian rights. Personally, I owe her an enormous debt; she was an invaluable ally in challenging the lies written about me and many others in our movement. I will always be grateful for her support, notably in an interview she gave in 2018, still circulating on You Tube and social media.
She was incredibly knowledgeable, particularly about the history and politics of Iran. Her recent support of Iranian women was remarkable. Indeed, she was a leading campaigner for women’s rights across the globe.
I will miss her limitless wisdom, humour and warmth. My deepest sympathies go to her daughters, grandchildren, family and huge circle of friends. May she rest in peace.
Jeremy Corbyn was Leader of the Labour Party from 2015 to 2020.
