Over 2.3 million Londoners live below the poverty line, and 33% of adults have skipped meals to save money so that their children can eat. London must become a Right To Food City!   Help build a huge movement to ensure all people in the UK have the Right To Food – building at grassroots, bringing together youth, communities and trade unions to support the Parliamentary campaign to make access to food a legal right. The campaign is led by Liverpool West Derby MP Ian Byrnebased on these demands:

1. Universal free school meals. No child should go hungry and the Right To Food campaign is calling for free school meals for every child.

2. Government to state how much of minimum wages and benefits (on which people are expected to live) is for food. The Right To Food Campaign wants the Government to reveal how much money is factored in for food when setting minimum/living wages and benefits.

3. Independent enforcement of legislation. Right To Food legislation must be accompanied by oversight and enforcement powers granted to a new independent regulatory body that will hold Government to account.

4. Community Kitchens. The Right To Food Campaign believes Community Kitchens provide a workable solution to food poverty. Government should fund dining clubs and ‘meals-on-wheels’ services for the elderly and vulnerable, school holiday meals for those most in need and cookery clubs for the wider community.

5. Ensured food security. Government must ensure food security and take this into account when setting competition, planning, transport, local government and all other policy.

Join the march in London to help ensure that our elected representatives hear the message: no-one should have to go without food in the sixth richest country in the world. Hunger is a political choice – let’s ensure politicians make the right one!

Food Inequalities Rebellion started Right To Food (RTF) London with Ian Byrne MP, in October 2021. RTF London now has activists in most London Boroughs, with eight councils now declared as ‘Right To Food’ boroughs. FIR is supporting the Hunger Marches and Rallies across London to demand an end to hunger and malnutrition and for the RTF to be enshrined in UK law.
