NEC nominations

By the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy

Recommended candidates for CLPs to nominate for the Labour Party National Executive Committee (NEC)

Candidates to nominate
CLPD is seeking nominations for the candidates backed by the Centre-Left Grassroots Alliance (CLGA) in this year’s National Executive Committee (NEC) CLP Section election. The candidates are the following:

  • Jess Barnard
  • Gemma Bolton
  • Yasmine Dar
  • Mish Rahman

To maximise the support for party democracy on the NEC, CLPD recommends the nomination of an additional candidate:

  •  Ann Black

CLP Nominations
There are nine CLP seats on the NEC so CLPs can make up to nine nominations for this committee. CLPs have to submit NEC nominations by 11.59, Friday 28 June. At least four of the nine elected to the CLP NEC seats must be women. Candidates need at least five CLP nominations to be included in the summer’s national ballot of Party members.

OMOV STV Ballot
The election will take place by a One Member One Vote (OMOV) ballot in July/August. The ballot vote is counted using the Single Transferable Vote (STV) method.

Labour Party Young Labour and Labour Students elections 2024

Young Labour
Candidates for national positions (Chair, International Officer, and equalities positions) require nominations from at least 5 Young Labour branches or, where there is not a Young Labour branch, CLPs. Candidates for the regional/Scotland/Wales positions require nominations from at least 3. (note: Young Labour branches should be officially registered with the Party as such to be able to nominate; there are many “Young Labour branches” that aren’t registered and were set up/operate outside of Party structures).

Labour Students
Candidates for Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary require nominations from at least 30 verified student members of the Party, while candidates for all other positions require at least 10. Members can nominate candidates for these positions through the Democracy Portal.

Deadlines
The deadline for both individual nominations for Labour Students, and for Young Labour branch or CLP nominations, is  23rd February (this means that CLP chairs or secretaries will need to have submitted their CLP’s nominations through the Democracy Portal before this date). The voting period for both elections is 14th March – 5th April.
