The recent elections to the European Parliament produced a worrying increase in the strength of far right parties in EU member states. This has been quickly followed by the announced parliamentary elections in France, posing a serious threat that they could give a majority to the far right National Rally.
This is worrying enough for these countries’ domestic politics. But in a Europe which has already seen significant obstruction to aid to Ukraine, this is also a serious concern as regards sustaining the resistance of the Ukrainian people.
These elections in Europe are overshadowed by the looming Presidential elections in the USA in November with the serious risk of a second Trump Presidency.
These electoral struggles have consequences for Ukraine, and with it the fate of this key battle for democracy with the new authoritarianism.
The Ukraine Solidarity Campaign is hosting an urgent forum to address these questions with key speakers from both the EU and USA.
