CLPD update

By the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy

1) Support Palestinian human rights

Following the U-turn on winter fuel payments, CLPs may wish to consider turning their attention to some of the other government policies that need to change, which are also damaging the Party’s support. Amongst these is the support that our government continues to give to Israel’s military onslaught on the Palestinians. The government’s rhetoric has recently been adjusted, but in its actions it continues to provide practical support – arms exports and military collaboration – for Israel’s offensive in Gaza.

CLPs may wish to consider the model motion on Gaza attached here as a Word Document and here as a PDF, that calls on our government to take concrete action. The motion is being promoted by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

2) Oppose the silencing of Labour women

The National Executive Committee has postponed this year’s Annual Women’s Conference with no new date set. This is the latest in a long line of decisions by our Party’s leadership to undermine and reduce the influence of women members and trade unionists.

In recent years, the Women’s Conference has been reduced in size and time allocated, once again tagged onto Annual Conference and treated as a fringe event. This year’s Annual Women’s Conference would have been more important than ever, with important policy motions to discuss relating to Labour’s approach to women and welfare – including Personal Independent Payments and the two-child benefit limit.

CLPs may wish to urgently consider the model motion attached here as a Word Document and here as a PDF, that calls on the NEC to reconsider its decision, so that women members can be heard.

3) The Devolution and Power Review

The Party is currently consulting activists and affiliates on how to ensure the Party has the structures and integrated processes needed to deliver winning election campaigns across new regional and local governance structures as devolution is increased. To contribute to the consultation click here (Closing Date: 1st July 2025).

A suggested response to the consultation is attached here as a Word Document and here as a PDF.
