Statement on election of UNISON’s new Presidential team

By The #TimeForRealChange campaign

The #TimeForRealChange campaign is delighted to be able to congratulate its candidates for the Presidential Team of UNISON. Voting was as follows:

Paul Holmes    32
Sian Stockham 26
April Ashley     4
Abstentions     0
Did not vote    1
Absent             5

Paul Holmes was duly elected.

Due to the election of Paul Holmes and UNISON’s rules which permit only one male member of the Presidential Team, James Anthony’s candidacy was invalid at this point.

Andrea Egan was therefore duly elected unopposed.

Junior Vice-President

Kath Owen      36
Davena Rankin 24
Abstentions     1
Did not vote    2
Absent             5

Kath Owen was duly elected.

This is an historic day for UNISON and a significant achievement for us all, which should not be underestimated. Since its inception as a trade union in 1993, 28 years ago, UNISON has never had a Presidential Team so committed to radical change in our union as this one. Much hard work is in front of us. But we do not assume it will be plain sailing. We anticipate and will be prepared for tactics which will be deployed to try to frustrate us.

#TimeForRealChange thanks the UNISON activists and members who have brought us to this point. We will need your active support to consolidate our achievements to date and to allow us to make the progressive changes we know you want to see – and voted for to give us the majority we have. We are working now on ways to involve you in the struggle ahead. But for today, we say ‘well done’ to Paul, Andrea and Kath, and to you for your unwavering support and commitment to real change in UNISON.
