By the Campaign for Labour Party Democracy
Individual Party members are encouraged to contact Labour MPs and urge then to nominate Bell Ribeiro-Addy to be a candidate for Deputy Leader.
The urgency is because the leadership have put in place an extremely short period for MPs to consider who they will nominate. They only have from today till Thursday this week to submit their nominations. This undemocratic limit placed on MPs nominations will reduce the possibilities for them to seriously discuss what is going so badly wrong with the direction of travel of our government.
MPs should be asked to nominate Bell, whether they agree with her positions on issues or not. Party members should have the opportunity to debate the issues that Bell is raising during the contest.
Bell is asking our Party to seriously examine why we are losing so much support, not in fact to Reform UK (a false claim made by some), but actually to those parties that oppose the politics of Reform UK.
The government’s austerity drive (cutting the welfare state), its anti-migrant agenda and its shift of more resources towards warfare – do not solve the problems we were elected to sort out. This agenda is losing us support and helping to strengthen the arguments being made by the far right. Our Party needs to discuss whether we should be pursuing a progressive agenda – that would instead benefit the population and is also what many Party members hope for.
Please contact Labour MPs today and urge them to ensure that the Deputy Leadership contest is inclusive of the views of Labour’s broad church. Nominate Bell Ribeiro-Addy!
